Media Credibility and
Social Responsibility

A Unified Direction in the
New Millennium
18th World Media Conference |

The World Media
Association is an international consortium of media professionals and opinion leaders who
envision a more peaceful world that values a high standard of personal ethics,
intercultural and interracial cooperation and the active participation of all people in
shaping the twenty-first century.
Furthermore, we believe that, as ones whose profession is communication,
we have a special obligation to use the full extent of our abilities to encourage these
pursuits in order that each generation may bequeath to its children a better, safer world
than it has known.
The World Media Association will embody this vision through various activities, including:
- Bringing together those who share a common vision of a new media that will improve and
deepen the quality of the media discussion about all aspects of human existence such as
the role of government and leadership in a changing world, the role of the individual,
conflict resolution, religion, community, health, environment.
- Promoting and encouraging education regarding the ethical responsibilities that go along
with being a member of a profession that must necessarily exist outside government
control.
- Establishing a global network of media professionals and opinion leaders who are able to
rise above their own nationalities, races and cultures, and work to elevate the overall
level of press freedom and the quality of life worldwide.
- Recognizing that the world is involved in sweeping transitions at many levels, brought
about by changes in technology, attitudes and the rise of a global information-based
culture -- and providing a forum for dialogue between opposing ideas.
- Working with the free market to empower individuals with greater access to the mass
media as well as broadening the range of voices and information sources available to the
average person.
- Publishing and disseminating the clearest and best ideas available on communication
freedom and ethics.
